Spider lifts - also called tracked aerial work platforms - are the right choice where wheels fail: on rough terrain, sensitive floors and in confined indoor spaces. Luibl rents spider lifts from leading manufacturers such as CTE, Teupen, Hinowa and Leguan with working heights from 13 to 40 metres - delivered by our own low-loaders throughout Belgium.

What makes spider lifts special?

The tracked chassis distributes the machine's dead weight over a large contact area - minimum specific ground pressure, maximum protection for sensitive surfaces. The non-marking rubber tracks leave hardly any marks on parquet, marble or tiles with underfloor heating. On rough terrain, spider lifts handle gradients of up to 30 % and travel safely over mud, sand and gravel. Key technical data of our spider lifts:

  • Working height: 13 m to 40 m

  • Load capacity: 200 kg to 400 kg

  • Outreach: up to 17 m

  • Retracted travel width: from 78 cm - fits through standard doors

  • Max. gradient: 30 %

  • Drive: bi-energy (diesel/petrol + electric 230 V/battery)

  • Turret slewing range: continuous 360 degrees

Articulating or telescopic spider lift: the right design for your job

  • Articulating spider lifts (CTE TRACCESS series): articulated boom for overhead work over obstacles - galleries, pipelines, ceiling beams.

  • Telescopic spider lifts (Teupen LEO series, up to 40 m): maximum outreach of up to 17 m, fast positioning for facades and tree crown care.

Applications: when is a spider lift the first choice?

  • Tree care and forestry: narrow models (from 78 cm) reach backyards and parks.

  • Churches, museums and heritage sites: no local emissions in electric mode, and non-marking tracks protect the historic fabric.

  • Industrial maintenance and facility management: precise manoeuvring in tight factory halls.

  • Sites with difficult terrain: mud, sand, gravel and gradients of up to 30 %.

  • Shopping centres and sports halls: exhaust-free in electric mode and with low point loads.

  • Sign technology and illuminated signage: the 360-degree slewing range saves repositioning time.

  • Events and film production: for stage construction, rigging work and camera moves in halls or on outdoor sites, spider lifts offer the decisive advantage: no anchoring in the ground, no damage to hall parquet or lawns, and no local emissions in electric mode, even in enclosed event venues.

  • Building and glass cleaning: the combination of manoeuvrability and a large outreach of up to 17 m makes spider lifts the preferred choice for glass facades, skylights and hard-to-reach exterior fronts - even on unpaved or uneven ground around the building.

Safety: instruction in line with Belgian well-being at work rules

Under the Code on Well-being at Work, aerial work platforms may only be operated by operators who have received adequate training. At the start of the rental, your staff receive an operator briefing on handover of the spider lift. For further qualifications, we recommend a certified aerial work platform course to the IPAF standard.

Delivery by our own low-loaders - throughout Belgium

Luibl delivers your spider lift by low-loader directly to your site - throughout Belgium. Our own transport logistics ensure punctual delivery, professional handover and reliable collection. For work on level ground, we also offer articulating boom lifts and telescopic boom lifts for rent.

How much does it cost to rent a spider lift?

Spider lifts are priced above comparable wheeled machines - the tracked chassis, variable outriggers and non-marking rubber tracks are more complex. The machine becomes economical where an alternative could not be used at all or where ground protection would otherwise be expensive.

These factors determine the rental price:

  • Working height and outreach: Between a 13-metre machine for indoor use and a 40-metre telescopic spider lift there are several classes. With 17 m of outreach, reach often matters more than height.
  • Design: articulating spider lifts for working over obstacles, telescopic spider lifts for maximum straight reach.
  • Track width: models from 78 cm that fit through standard doors form a segment of their own.
  • Rental period: daily, weekly and monthly rates are tiered; for longer projects, long-term terms apply, including maintenance and periodic inspection during the rental period.
  • Transport: delivery and collection by our own low-loader to your site are quoted separately, depending on site location, transport weight and access.

If the ground is load-bearing and the work point is freely accessible, also consider the more economical alternatives: a scissor lift for purely vertical work or an articulating boom lift on wheels. All designs at a glance: rent aerial work platforms.

FAQ: Spider lifts

Which ground surfaces is a spider lift best suited for?

Spider lifts are specialised for extremely pressure-sensitive or uneven ground. Thanks to the wide load distribution of the crawler undercarriage, the specific ground pressure is minimal. They are therefore the first choice for lawns, historic cobblestones, hall floors with underfloor heating or tiles in shopping centres. Outdoors, they handle mud, sand and slopes where wheeled platforms would fail.

Do spider lifts fit through normal doors?

Yes, that is one of their biggest advantages. Many models in our rental fleet (e.g. in the 15 m to 17 m class) have a narrow chassis that is often only 78 cm to 90 cm wide when retracted. This allows the machines to be manoeuvred easily through standard interior doors, garden gates or narrow aisles in industrial plants.

Do the spider lifts have an emission-free drive for indoor use?

Almost all of our spider lifts are equipped with a bi-energy drive. This means: outdoors, you use the powerful diesel or petrol engine. Indoors, you switch to the 230 V mains electric drive or the integrated battery operation. This lets you work completely without exhaust fumes and quietly, ideal for hospitals, schools or churches.

How do the outriggers work on uneven ground or stairs?

Spider lifts have what is known as variable outrigger positioning. The four outriggers can often be positioned asymmetrically and at different angles. This allows the machine to be levelled perfectly even on slopes, over wall projections or on stair steps. Modern sensor technology provides automatic levelling at the push of a button.

Does Luibl deliver the spider lift directly to the site?

Absolutely. As spider lifts are not road-legal because of their tracks and cannot drive to the site on their own, we organise transport with our special low-loaders. We deliver on the agreed date throughout Belgium, from Antwerp via Brussels to Liege, directly to your site.

Is a spider lift the same as a crawler platform?

Yes. Spider lift, crawler platform and tracked aerial work platform describe the same design: a mobile elevating work platform with a tracked undercarriage and four fold-out outriggers that resemble spider legs. Luibl's rental fleet includes eight such machines from CTE and Teupen with 13.00 to 39.50 m working height.

Which spider lift has the largest outreach?

The Teupen LEO30Tplus has the largest outreach in the fleet at 17.00 m, with 30 m working height and 400 kg platform capacity. For access narrower than 1 m, the CTE TRACCESS 270 is the alternative: 0.78 m wide, 27 m working height and 14 m outreach.

Do I need a special operator certificate for spider lifts?

Yes, safe operation requires instruction under the Belgian well-being at work legislation (Act of 4 August 1996 and the Code on Well-being at Work) as well as appointment by the employer. We recommend IPAF training (category 1b). Luibl Rental provides an operator briefing on handover.

Which spider lift carries 400 kg in the platform?

Three models in the Luibl rental fleet: the Teupen LEO30Tplus (30.00 m), the LEO35Tplus (35.00 m) and the LEO40GTX (39.50 m working height). The CTE TRACCESS models carry 200 to 250 kg, but are from 0.78 m wide and fit through narrow access routes.
