What types of Manitou telehandlers are there?

Manitou divides its telehandler range into four clearly defined types. Which variant is suitable depends on three factors: load capacity, required reach and operating environment.

  • Fixed telehandlers (MT series) — The boom is fixed to the chassis, the load is picked up at the front. High stability even without outriggers, linear power delivery when moving the load forward. MT models cover lift heights from 4 to 18 metres and load capacities between 2 and 4 tonnes. Classic choice for construction, logistics and high-rise applications with changing pick-up points. → Manitou fixed telehandlers

  • Roto telehandlers (MRT series) — The upper carriage rotates endlessly through 360 degrees on the undercarriage. Loads are positioned precisely without moving the chassis. This saves time, protects the ground and reduces travel movements in the danger zone. MRT Vision Plus with RFID attachment recognition, lift heights up to 35 metres, load capacities up to 7 tonnes. → Manitou roto telehandlers

  • Heavy-duty telehandlers (MHT series) — Mining and Heavy Telehandler, designed for loads from 10 tonnes. Reinforced lifting structures, hydrostatic four-wheel drive, three steering modes, driving under full load. Models such as the MHT 10120 (12 t), MHT 10200 (20 t) and MHT 11250 (25 t) are the choice for steel construction, port handling, mining and bridge construction. → View Manitou MHT 11250

  • Electric telehandlers — Lithium-ion battery, no local emissions, low noise. Models such as the MT 625e bring the performance of the diesel version to halls, food and pharma environments, hospitals and inner-city sites with noise and emission restrictions. → Electric telehandlers

Manitou telescopic wheel loaders (MLA series) and agricultural MLT models complement the range in agricultural technology — available on request via Luibl.

What are Manitou telehandlers used for?

Four sectors dominate rental demand. The right choice of model depends on load capacity, lift height and terrain requirements — the following assignments are the most common practical configurations.

  • Building and structural work — Supplying floors with bricks, mortar silos, steel beams, precast elements. Standard machines: MT 1440 (14 m) and MT 1840 (18 m) for buildings up to six storeys, MRT 2150 (21 m) for high-rise projects with rotating load positioning.

  • Industrial assembly — Plant construction, facade assembly, steel hall construction, power plant projects. The MRT series with personnel basket becomes a heavy-duty aerial work platform — here the operator must have the required qualification, in line with applicable Belgian safety rules and NBN EN standards. RFID attachment recognition automatically adjusts the load chart when changing tools.

  • Mining, steel construction and heavy industry — Moving coils, steel plates and machine groups beyond the 10-tonne limit. The MHT series is market leader in the heavy-duty telehandler segment. The MHT 10200 (20 t) and MHT 11250 (25 t) replace space-consuming heavy cranes with outriggers in many cases.

  • Agriculture and recycling — Agricultural MLT models (with Stage V engine and greater reach than the standard MT) for farm work, silage, manure and straw logistics. Available on request via Luibl — contact our dispatch team directly.

Attachments for Manitou telehandlers

The real strength of a Manitou telehandler lies in the combination with the right attachment. The quick-change system (E-Reco) automatically recognises the coupled tool and loads the matching load chart — a safety plus especially for MRT models with frequent tool changes during operation.

  • Pallet forks and load forks — Classic pallet transport in building construction and logistics. Optionally with side shift and fork positioner.

  • Load hooks and winches — Turn the telehandler into a mobile crane. The PT jib winch is ideal for lifting loads over obstacles or roof overhangs.

  • Personnel baskets — Up to 1,000 kg basket load, usable as a heavy-duty aerial work platform. Requirements: personal fall protection equipment, basket instruction and the required operator qualification for MRT.

  • Buckets — Bulk handling for gardening and landscaping, earthworks, recycling yards.

  • Vacuum lifters — In combination with MRT models the first choice for modern glass and facade construction.

  • Cylinder and pipe clamps, tyre handlers, positioners — Special attachments for industrial assembly, port handling and tyre service.

What qualification do you need for a Manitou telehandler?

Operating telehandlers is subject to clearly defined requirements from Belgian well-being at work legislation (Act of 4 August 1996 and the Code on Well-being at Work), the Code on Well-being at Work, Book IV (work equipment) and the EU Machinery Directive. Knowing the requirements well avoids fines, loss of insurance cover and — above all — accidents.

  • Operator qualification · The operator needs adequate training ensured by the employer, in line with applicable Belgian safety rules. For roto MRT models and for use with a basket as an aerial work platform, training on the specific machine type is recommended.

  • Fall protection in the basket · When working with a personnel basket, personal fall protection equipment is part of the job. It absorbs the whip effect in the event of an unexpected swing of the basket — a sudden boom movement can lead to being thrown out of the basket without fall protection.

  • Periodic inspection · All Manitou rental machines at Luibl undergo periodic inspection by an external technical inspection body (EDTC/SECT) (hydraulics, safety systems, stability, load moment limiter). The inspection is valid on delivery; for long-term rentals, Luibl covers the next inspection at no extra charge.

  • Stage V engines · Current MT, MRT and MHT models are equipped with Stage V diesel engines in accordance with EU Regulation 2016/1628 — a prerequisite for use in emission-monitored industrial zones and low emission zones (LEZ).

  • Machine-specific instruction · In addition to the basic qualification, every operator receives instruction on the specific rental machine — load chart, JSM joystick layout, emergency lowering, outrigger operation. Luibl offers this instruction with every machine delivery.

On handover, the operator receives instruction on the rental machine — on your site if required.

For use in Belgium, the Belgian well-being at work rules apply; if in doubt, have it checked whether a qualification obtained abroad is sufficient.

How much does it cost to rent a Manitou telehandler?

The daily rate depends on type, lift height, load capacity and rental period. Three cost factors are central:

  • Type and model class — Compact fixed MT models (MT 625, MT 930) have the lowest daily rate. Standard building models (MT 1440, MT 1840) are in the mid-range. Roto telehandlers (MRT 2150 to MRT 3570) are considerably more expensive due to their greater complexity and lift height. Heavy-duty MHT models form the top price segment, often with an individual project price.

  • Rental period — Daily rental (1–3 days) has the highest daily rate. Weekly rental reduces it noticeably. Long-term rental from three months includes periodic inspection, maintenance and in some cases a refuelling service in the price and brings the daily rate down to industrial level.

  • Delivery and attachments — Delivered by low-loader to your site. Attachments (load hook, personnel basket, winch, vacuum lifter) are charged separately as a flat rate.

You will receive a specific quote promptly after your request — including inspection status, delivery date and instruction option. → Check availability · Get in touch

Can I also use a Manitou telehandler as an aerial work platform?

Yes - with a certified personnel basket, the telehandler formally becomes an aerial work platform. Basket loads of up to 1,000 kg are possible, depending on the model. Requirements: an approved original Manitou basket, personal fall protection equipment and the required operator qualification. The MRT series is the typical choice for this, as the rotating upper carriage allows precise positioning without travelling.

What is the difference between MT, MRT and MHT at Manitou?

MT (Maniscopic Telescopic) are fixed telehandlers with a boom rigidly connected to the chassis - load capacities of 2 to 4 t, lift heights up to 18 m. MRT (Manitou Rotary Telescopic) have a 360-degree rotating upper carriage - up to 7 t and 35 m lift height. MHT (Mining and Heavy Telehandler) are heavy-duty machines with a reinforced lifting structure for loads from 10 t and lift heights of around 10 m. The choice follows the task profile, not the price.

Which Manitou telehandler has the greatest reach?

In the standard rental fleet, the MRT 3570 with 34.7 m maximum lift height and 28 m outreach. Within the Vision Plus generation, the MRT 3060 reaches up to 30 m. In the heavy-duty segment, the MHT 11250 with 10.6 m lift height and 25 t load capacity offers the greatest lifting capacity - here reach is secondary to the load level.

How long does delivery of a rental machine take?

We deliver throughout Belgium at short notice, depending on model availability, region and required configuration. For plannable large projects or heavy-duty MHT models, we recommend enquiring two to four weeks in advance so that the preferred model, attachments and any special transport can be scheduled properly.

Can Manitou MRT models be used indoors?

Thanks to their particulate filter, many MRT models can also be used indoors despite their diesel drive. The compact MRT 1840, with its slim design, is particularly suitable for work in halls and confined areas.

How quickly is a Manitou available?

Send us your request with the model, period and place of use. We check availability and organise delivery throughout Belgium with our own low-loader fleet.

Who may operate a Manitou telehandler?

Telehandlers may only be operated by instructed persons with the required operator qualification, in line with applicable Belgian safety rules. On handover we provide an operator briefing so that your staff work with the machine safely and in compliance with the rules.

Do I need a certificate for a Manitou telehandler?

Yes, the operator needs the required qualification: the employer must ensure adequate training suited to the machine type (fixed, rotating or with basket), in line with applicable Belgian safety rules. A machine-specific briefing on the actual rental machine is also advisable. Luibl provides an operator briefing on handover.

Does Luibl also offer operator training for Manitou machines?

We do not offer certified operator training in Belgium. We do, however, provide an operator briefing on handover of the Manitou machine, directly at your site on request. The training itself, with the required operator qualification in line with applicable Belgian safety rules, remains the responsibility of the employer.
