Mobile crane rental: powerful mobile cranes for your project
When loads become too heavy for any telehandler and too bulky for any aerial work platform, the mobile crane takes over. At Luibl you rent Liebherr LTM mobile cranes with load capacities from 40 to 750 tonnes and lift heights up to 152 m - including delivery by low-loader to your site throughout Belgium and advice from experienced planners.
Whether it is steel beams over a factory hall, an HVAC unit over the parapet or a tower section onto a wind turbine: the right crane size decides whether your lift sits cleanly first time - or whether you have to work with capacity reserves that turn out to be costly when they are missing later.
Finding the right crane size: from 40 to 750 tonnes load capacity
When selecting a crane, what counts is not the maximum load capacity on the data sheet but the remaining capacity at the radius you need. A 100-tonne crane only lifts its rated load at minimal radius - at 30 m reach, often only a few tonnes are left. This is exactly where our advice starts: we check load weight, radius, hook height and ground conditions against the machine's load charts.
Liebherr LTM rental fleet (selection):
- Liebherr LTM 1040-2.1 - 40 t load capacity, 44 m lift height, 39 m outreach, 24 t own weight. The agile entry model for urban installations and narrow access routes.
- Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2 - 70 t load capacity, 50 m lift height, 48 m outreach. The workhorse for steel construction, machine relocation and mid-sized construction projects.
- Liebherr LTM 1100-5.3 - 100 t load capacity, 62 m lift height, 64 m outreach. Variable outrigger setup with VarioBase - an advantage on tight sites where full outrigging is not possible.
- Liebherr LTM 1160-5.2 - 180 t load capacity, 99 m lift height, 78 m outreach. The class for industrial installations and greater reach without separate heavy transport.
- Liebherr LTM 1300-6.3 - 300 t load capacity, 120 m lift height, 94 m outreach. For heavy lifts and large projects with greater reach requirements.
- Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 - 450 t load capacity, 132 m lift height, 103 m outreach, 124 t own weight.
- Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 - 800 t maximum load capacity, 152 m lift height, 116 m outreach, 140 t own weight. The top of our fleet - for wind power, bridge construction and plant installation in the heavy-lift segment.
Between these classes, further LTM models of 60, 90, 120, 150, 230, 350 and 650 t are available. This closes the typical gaps that other rental companies have to bridge with the next larger crane - at a corresponding extra cost.
Gross vs. net load: the most common calculation error
The load chart shows the gross load on the hook. From this you must deduct: the hook block, the slings (chains, round slings, spreader beams) and, where applicable, the lattice jib or extended telescopic boom. What remains is the actual net load for your component. On large lifts this difference can amount to several tonnes - a point our planning team always factors in when recommending a crane size.
Mobile crane rental with operator - safety through expertise
At Luibl, mobile cranes are rented exclusively with experienced operating staff. This is not an empty service phrase but a safety necessity: the operation of mobile cranes falls under Belgian well-being at work legislation (Act of 4 August 1996 and the Code on Well-being at Work), and the crane operator must have the required operator qualification in line with applicable Belgian safety rules and NBN EN standards.
Our crane operators have known their machines for years, are trained in stability conditions, load moment limitation and the configurations of Liebherr technology - and know when a lift must be aborted. Especially with critical lifts over existing buildings, in factory halls or in tandem lifts, this is the factor that prevents damage.
Note: Periodic inspection by an external technical inspection body (EDTC/SECT) is a matter of course for our entire crane fleet. We provide inspection reports on request for your project documentation.
Deployment planning: what you need to know before renting
Most delays on lifting days are caused not by the machine but by insufficient preparation of the set-up area. Clarify these points before your enquiry:
- Set-up area and ground: A 100 t crane transfers point ground pressures of several hundred kN/m2 under its outriggers. Paving, interlocking pavers or uncompacted gravel rarely hold this without load-spreading mats. Where there are underground car parks or basements beneath the set-up area, a structural check is essential.
- Outrigger width: Check whether the full outrigger base can be used. For restricted conditions, the VarioBase technology of the Liebherr LTM range offers asymmetric outrigging - with correspondingly reduced load capacity on the restricted side.
- Access: Height restrictions (bridges, gates), bearing capacity of access roads and turning circles. Larger LTM models have axle loads that not every site entrance can take.
- Obstacles: Roof edges, parapets, canopies, overhead lines - every obstacle line between the lift point and the set-down point must be factored into the boom selection.
- Permits: No-parking zones, road closures, permits for using pavements or slewing over neighbouring plots. Apply for these permits in good time before the job; the lead time varies by municipality.
- Load data: Weight, centre of gravity and lifting points of the component. For unknown loads we calculate with safety margins - which pushes the crane size upwards.
If you are unsure about any of these points: that is exactly what the preliminary consultation is for. Better to ask once too often than to stand on site on lifting day with the wrong crane.
Cost factors in crane rental
There are no flat rates for crane rental, for a simple reason: every lift is different. The calculation is made up of these components:
- Duration of the lift and daily rate of the chosen crane size
- Transport to and from your site
- Rigging time for set-up, ballasting and dismantling (for larger cranes >150 t, separate heavy transport for counterweight and boom extension is often added)
- Operating staff (crane operator, and a signaller for critical lifts where needed)
- Permits and escort vehicles in line with the Belgian Highway Code for oversized and heavy transports
- Insurance for the rental period
For long-term rentals and project packages - for example if you need crane capacity for several weeks on a large site - significantly better terms apply. Talk to us directly about it.
Renting instead of buying: the economic logic
A mobile crane in the 100 t class costs seven figures to buy - plus periodic inspection by an EDTC, maintenance contracts, TUV, insurance and the ongoing question of whether utilisation justifies the capital invested. Renting removes these variables:
- No tied-up capital, no depreciation, no residual value discussion
- No in-house maintenance and inspection effort
- Scalable crane size - the 70-tonner today, the 300-tonner on the next project
- Always the latest machine generation with up-to-date control and safety technology
For construction companies, industrial businesses and plant builders who do not lift every day, this is the economically sound solution.
Crane rental at Luibl - why it works
For years Luibl has been a partner to industry, construction companies and general contractors throughout Belgium.
Our crane fleet consists exclusively of Liebherr LTM models - which means continuous spare parts supply and concentrated expertise instead of a mix of brands. We handle the logistics with our own low-loader fleet, without depending on the availability of subcontractors whose dates do not fit your construction schedule. Delivery throughout Belgium - and if your project needs more than one crane, we combine the rental directly with aerial work platforms, telehandlers or forklifts from one supplier. Our experience with key accounts - from car plants through plant engineering to energy infrastructure - shows concretely in our planning: you speak to a dedicated contact who knows your project, instead of working your way through a call centre chain.
