Powerful, durable, reliable: where loads beyond the 3-tonne mark are moved, where shift work allows no charging break and where rain, dust and uneven yards are part of everyday work, the diesel forklift is the right choice. At Luibl Rental you rent diesel forklifts with load capacities of 3 to 18 tonnes, lift heights of more than 6 metres and a valid periodic inspection. Delivery throughout Belgium by our own low-loader.

Your rental fleet at a glance:

  • Load capacities from 3,000 kg to 18,000 kg

  • Lift heights up to 6.07 m (special configurations up to 7 m on request)

  • Brands in the rental fleet: Hyundai, Manitou, Doosan, Kalmar, Maximal Forklift

  • Stage V engines with diesel particulate filter on recent models

Applications - where diesel forklifts play to their strengths

Building materials trade and construction industry

Pallets of bricks, reinforcement mesh, insulation material, roof tiles - the building materials trade depends on fast outdoor handling. Diesel forklifts from 3.5 tonnes (Manitou MI 35 D ST5) cover everyday handling; from 5 tonnes (Hyundai 50DA-9) even heavy loads of steel or precast concrete elements are moved without difficulty. Tip from practice: For bulky loads with a low centre of gravity, it pays to go for the next capacity class up - the residual capacity at mast height is decisive.

Heavy industry and metalworking

Coils, steel beams, pressed parts: from 8 tonnes (Hyundai 80D-9) Luibl enters the heavyweight segment. When unloading heavy steel structures and handling in-plant traffic, maximum stability is required even on uneven ground. The 16- and 18-tonne machines (Hyundai 160D-9, Kalmar DCG 180-6T) are the specialists among diesel forklifts for port logistics, steel trading and heavy machinery construction.

Recycling and waste management

In the circular economy, robustness and ease of repair count for more than any comfort feature. Diesel forklifts with super-elastic tyres withstand sharp metal and broken glass better than solid rubber versions. On request, Luibl delivers with prepared attachments such as a rotator or bale clamp - matched to the application.

Event logistics and stand construction

Diesel forklifts are used to set up large trade fair stands, stage structures and outdoor events - wherever heavy loads have to be moved at short notice on soft ground and there is no fixed charging infrastructure. A tank instead of a socket makes the difference.

Technical features - what to look out for when renting

Load capacity and lift height - choosing the right forklift

Matching the load and the machine determines safety and cost-effectiveness. Three key figures must be right for a diesel forklift:

  • Rated capacity: The standard load at the load centre (usually 500 mm or 600 mm) - given in the model names as '3 tonnes', '5 tonnes', '16 tonnes'.

  • Load centre: The further the centre of the load is from the fork carriage, the more the residual capacity drops. For pallets with overhang or long loads, calculate well below the rated capacity.

  • Lift height with residual capacity: At maximum lift height the capacity drops by 20-40 % depending on the model. We will send you the load chart for the machine concerned on request.

Terrain capability - counterbalance forklift or rough-terrain forklift?

Diesel counterbalance forklifts such as the Hyundai 30D-9 or Doosan D30G-Plus are designed for smooth, level ground - paved yards, storage areas and handling areas. For unpaved terrain, mud or shell construction sites you need a genuine rough-terrain forklift with four-wheel drive and higher ground clearance. You will find these separately in our rough-terrain forklift rental section. We advise you on which variant suits the ground and load profile of your project.

Emission standards - Stage V and diesel particulate filter

Since 2019, EU Regulation 2016/1628 (Stage V) has applied to newly placed mobile machinery. It significantly limits particle numbers and nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide emissions. Modern Luibl rental forklifts (e.g. Manitou MI 35 D ST5) comply with Stage V, have a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and can therefore also be used temporarily indoors - always provided the hall ventilation is adequately dimensioned.

Drive - torque converter or hydrostatic?

Diesel counterbalance forklifts are built with two drive principles that differ noticeably in use:

  • Torque converter: Classic design, robust, proven in heavy handling with long travel distances. Somewhat less sensitive when reversing precisely.

  • Hydrostatic drive: Sensitive control, ideal for frequent load changes and millimetre-precise positioning. Very good driving comfort, somewhat more maintenance-intensive.

Which variant suits depends on the operating profile. For pure yard handling with long distances: torque converter. For frequent storage and retrieval with precise reversing: hydrostatic.

Tyres - the often underestimated factor

Luibl supplies diesel forklifts with super-elastic tyres (SE) as standard. They are puncture-proof, wear-resistant and carry high loads. Pneumatic tyres on request for use on particularly soft ground, solid rubber for hard hall floors. When alternating between hall and yard, we recommend non-marking versions to avoid floor marks in production halls.

Practical example - steel supply in bridge construction

Our 10-tonne class proves particularly effective when unloading heavy steel structures in bridge construction. On an infrastructure project in southern Germany, steel beams were transferred directly from heavy haulage vehicles to the intermediate storage area over several weeks - in changing weather and on partly uneven ground. The combination of high stability, a robust chassis and fast refuelling considerably reduced downtime compared with an electric fleet. Technical support was provided by our technician service with on-site response.

Maintenance guarantee - every rental machine checked before use

Every diesel forklift leaves our fleet only after a full check by qualified agricultural and construction machinery technicians. The check covers:

  • Periodic inspection under the Code on Well-being at Work, Book IV, with a current inspection label

  • Hydraulic pressure, mast pins and chain condition

  • Engine check incl. oil level, filters and particulate filter status

  • Function test of side shift, fork positioner and other attachments

  • Tyres checked for wear and damage

  • Safety equipment: seat belt, horn, lights, reversing alarm

For long-term rentals (from three months), the periodic inspections and annual maintenance are included in the long-term terms - with no separate order and no extra costs.

FAQ: Renting diesel forklifts

chevronDown

Can I switch models if needed?

Yes. For framework agreements or projects with changing requirements we switch models flexibly - for example from the 5-tonne forklift to the 8-tonne class when the load profile grows. Just mention it in your enquiry.

When is renting a diesel forklift worthwhile compared to electric?

Diesel forklifts are the first choice for outdoor use, multi-shift operation without charging infrastructure, loads from 5 tonnes and changing sites without a fixed power supply. Electric forklifts show their strengths indoors - in food, pharmaceutical and cold-storage areas. We are happy to advise on the right drive for your use case.

How are the rental machines delivered?

Luibl has its own fleet of low-loaders. This makes us independent of external hauliers and ensures plannable appointments - also for the large 16- and 18-tonne forklifts. Delivery throughout Belgium and also to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and other countries. We arrange collection easily via the off-hire notification.

Which attachments can I add?

Side shift, hydraulic fork positioner, fork extensions, rotator (e.g. for emptying waste containers), bale clamp, full cab, overhead guard and much more. For long-term rentals, diesel forklifts can be configured individually.

Which driving licence or qualification is required?

Operation requires forklift operator training (adequate training ensured by the employer); the employer appoints the operator and ensures the required operator qualification in line with applicable Belgian safety rules. Age and fitness requirements follow the applicable Belgian rules. On handover, Luibl provides an operator briefing.

Can diesel forklifts be driven inside halls?

With conditions. Modern diesel forklifts with a Stage V engine and particulate filter can be used temporarily in sufficiently ventilated halls. For continuous indoor use or in food and pharmaceutical applications, we clearly recommend electric forklifts. The decision depends on the risk analysis in line with applicable Belgian safety rules and the guidance of the Well-being at Work Inspectorate (FPS Employment).

How much does it cost to rent a diesel forklift?

Rental prices depend on capacity class, rental period, equipment and location. A 3-tonne model is considerably cheaper per day than a 16-tonne heavyweight. Long-term rentals from three months reduce the daily rate and include periodic inspection and maintenance. Specific quote promptly after your enquiry.

How long does it take to get a replacement if one of your own machines fails?

Depending on availability, we deliver replacement machines at short notice. For industrial customers with critical operations, we offer tailored framework agreements on request.
