Manitou forklift rental - rough-terrain, robust, ready for use

In 1958 Marcel Braud invented the first rough-terrain forklift in Ancenis, France - laying the foundation for the Manitou brand. Today the company builds one of the most versatile forklift ranges on the market: rough-terrain forklifts of the M series for sites and yards, industrial forklifts of the MI range for indoor use and heavy-duty variants for extreme tonnages. Luibl Rental rents out the Manitou forklift range with load capacities from 3 to more than 5 tonnes - supplemented by heavy-duty solutions on request. Four-wheel drive, high ground clearance, clear-view mast and ergonomic cabs make every Manitou forklift a specialist machine for demanding jobs. Choose the model that suits your logistics.

What types of Manitou forklifts are there?

Manitou divides its forklift range according to the operating environment. Three main lines cover the full spectrum:

  • Rough-terrain forklifts M series - models such as the M30-4 (3 t) and M50-4 (5 t) are designed for unpaved sites, building yards, timber yards and outdoor storage. Permanent four-wheel drive (4x4), high ground clearance and oscillating axles ensure safe load handling even on gravel, grass and wet ground. These models are the typical choice for builders' merchants, main construction trades, forestry and landscaping.

  • Industrial forklifts MI series - counterbalance forklifts such as the MI 35 D ST5 with 3.5 tonnes load capacity and a Stage V diesel engine are designed for paved floors in halls, yards and logistics centres. Lower ground clearance, classic industrial tyres and a narrower design make manoeuvring in racking aisles easier. Available in the rental fleet with diesel, gas and electric drive depending on operating conditions.

  • Semi-industrial models and heavy-duty variants - for mixed use on yards with an indoor share, Manitou offers semi-industrial forklifts. Luibl provides heavy-duty solutions beyond the 5-tonne class on request - if required in combination with models from other manufacturers such as Kalmar or Hyundai, which extend the range up to 18 tonnes.

Rough-terrain or industrial forklift — which Manitou suits you?

Three factors determine the right choice. Careful planning here avoids incorrect requests, delayed deliveries and above all safety risks from wrongly sized machines.

  • Ground — Smooth, paved floors in halls or asphalted yards → MI series (industrial forklifts). Mixed conditions with indoor and outdoor use → semi-industrial models. Unpaved terrain, gravel, sand, mud, snow → M series (rough-terrain forklifts) with four-wheel drive.

  • Load capacity and load centre — Up to 2.5 t at a 500 mm load centre → MI 25 / entry-level rough-terrain forklift. 3–3.5 t standard pallets → MI 35 D ST5 or M30-4. 5 t steel beams and heavy big bags → M50-4. Over 5 t or unusual load centre → heavy-duty class or telehandler. The rated capacity refers to the standard load centre; with long or overhanging loads the residual capacity drops considerably.

  • Operating time and charging infrastructure — Multi-shift operation without charging breaks or without a fixed power supply → diesel. Indoors with food, pharma or cold-storage environments → electric. Intermediate solution with outdoor and indoor use → LPG.

If in doubt, clarify it briefly in the quotation discussion — overloading and the wrong choice of drive are the most common causes of forklift accidents and of consequential damage to floor and load.

Do you need a forklift or a yard loader?

Besides forklifts, Manitou also produces telescopic wheel loaders (e.g. the MLA series), known as yard loaders. These machines have an articulated frame, a swing arm and can be combined with a bucket, pallet fork, crocodile grab or grapple — typical applications are agriculture, recycling yards, timber storage and building materials logistics with a share of bulk material.

When a forklift, when a yard loader? If the task is primarily lifting and stacking pallets, containers or defined loads, a Manitou forklift is the more efficient choice — higher lift height, more precise positioning, lower rental costs. If bulk handling or the use of various attachments dominates (bucket, grapple, manure fork), a yard loader or telescopic wheel loader is more suitable.

Luibl offers yard loaders and telescopic wheel loaders in the construction machinery range — contact our dispatch team if you are undecided between the two categories. → View construction machinery

What training do you need for a Manitou forklift?

Operating forklifts with a driver's seat or driver's platform on Belgian company premises is clearly regulated. Three requirements are central:

  • Code on Well-being at Work, Book IV (work equipment) — Sets out the general safety requirements for the equipment and use of work equipment such as forklifts.

  • Forklift operator training — Adequate training ensured by the employer. The employer makes sure that the operator has the required qualification, in line with applicable Belgian safety rules.

  • Machine-specific instruction — In addition to basic training, every operator receives instruction on the specific rental machine — load chart, controls, special features of the four-wheel-drive steering modes.

  • Periodic inspection — All Luibl rental machines are delivered with a valid periodic inspection by an external technical inspection body (EDTC/SECT). For long-term rentals, Luibl covers the next inspection at no extra charge.

On handover, the operator receives instruction on the rental machine — on your site if required.

For use in Belgium, the Belgian well-being at work rules apply; if in doubt, have it checked whether a qualification obtained abroad is sufficient; additional instruction is recommended.

How much does it cost to rent a Manitou forklift?

The daily rate for a Manitou forklift depends on the model class, the rental period and the delivery location. Three factors determine the final price:

  • Model class — A 3-tonne rough-terrain forklift has a clearly lower daily rate than a 5-tonne model or an MI 35 D ST5 with Stage V engine. Heavy-duty classes from 10 t form a separate price segment.

  • Rental period — Daily rental (1–3 days) has the highest daily rate. Weekly rental noticeably reduces the daily rate. Long-term rentals from three months usually include periodic inspection and maintenance in the price and bring the daily rate down to industrial level.

  • Delivery and accessories — Delivered by low-loader to your site. Attachments such as side shift, fork positioner or rotator are charged separately.

What distinguishes Manitou rough-terrain forklifts from standard forklifts?

Manitou rough-terrain forklifts of the M series have permanent four-wheel drive (4x4), higher ground clearance, larger tyres with a coarser tread and an oscillating axle. Classic industrial forklifts (including Manitou models such as the MI series) usually have front-wheel drive and are designed for paved floors. On gravel, grass or mud, an industrial forklift would spin or tip over - the rough-terrain forklift keeps its traction.

Which Manitou forklifts are suitable for indoor use?

For pure indoor use on paved floors, the MI series is the right choice, ideally as an electric forklift or with LPG drive. Diesel industrial forklifts such as the MI 35 D ST5 can be used temporarily indoors with sufficient ventilation - for food, pharmaceutical or cold-storage applications, clearly prefer electric. The decision follows the risk assessment in line with applicable Belgian safety rules.

What load capacity does a Manitou M50-4 have?

The Manitou M50-4 has a rated capacity of 5,000 kg at a standard load centre (500 mm). The lift height is just under 5 metres. With a different load centre (long loads, big bags with overhang), the residual capacity decreases according to the load chart - the complete chart is supplied with the machine.

Does Luibl deliver Manitou forklifts throughout Belgium?

Yes. With our own low-loader fleet we deliver throughout Belgium - and also to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy, Hungary and Luxembourg. Delivery times depend on model availability and region.

Do I need forklift operator training for a Manitou?

Yes. For every industrial truck with a driver's seat or driver's platform, the employer must ensure adequate forklift operator training under the Belgian well-being at work legislation (Act of 4 August 1996 and the Code on Well-being at Work), supplemented by machine-specific instruction. The training is not tied to a model, but the machine-specific instruction is. Luibl provides the operator briefing on handover.
